Welcoming over 19,800 visitors, the BUILDING & HOME IMPROVEMENT EXPO, in collaboration with the Master Builders Association, wrapped on Sunday 28 June 2009 after three huge days.

Over 200+ professional companies, each offering up to the minute products and information across all areas of renovation, building and related products, presented at the expo attracting homeowners and builders from across Victoria.

Highlighting solutions to an array of topical issues, the Expo covered sustainable living, smart technology, solar power, kitchens, bathrooms, building, flooring, landscaping and gardens, heating products, home services, internal/external lighting, pools & spas, roofing, security, skylights, air conditioning and much more.

Demonstrating a level of support for many of the Black Saturday victims, there were a number of exhibitors and experts on hand to discuss building / re-building in fire prone areas. Organisers of the expo arranged free transportation from Healsville for those wishing to come to the Expo.

The new Colour & Paint Feature and DIY Stage were popular choices for those wanting to learn the latest tricks of the trade; however it was the SMALLisSMART house that provided an amazing example of what is now available to the general public. With a SMALLisSMART house on display at the Expo, visitors were able to walk through and imagine living in this exceptionally designed space.

Other highlights included examples of the new Aussie Backyard and what can only be described as every child's dream in the backyard, the Kid's Under Cover cubby house. Hand made by leading builders, the miniature house incorporated a water tank, solar panels and a portable TV & DVD Player as well as all of the essentials any mini homeowner could want. The cubby house was raffled to raise money for Kid's Under Cover, celebrating 20 years of support in 2009.

The Building & Home Improvement Expo is no doubt the most informative show for anyone considering building and renovating. Only serious genuine building products coupled with fantastic seminars that focussed on current building related issues especially the whole area of sustainable building. We have just commenced our building project and will certainly be there again next year when we will more than likely be in the position of purchasing from many of the exhibitors. What I really liked was the fact there there were no mops, buckets and shoe shine exhibitors like you see in other shows.
